The "Darlings"
William Faulkner said: “In writing, you must kill all your darlings”. Same goes for design. While updating a tab on my website, I realized that these “darling” concept boards had served their purpose and now they must live on somewhere else.
Antique Acquisitions
A few concepts inspired by antiquing
Inspired....
A peak at how my inspiration process works.
In this case, it started with the spark of discovering the late 19th century photographs of young Somali men by Prince Bonaparte for the ‘Exposition Universelle, Paris 1889’. Next, I brainstorm design/product applications. The folds of their homespun garments made me think of rumpled organic bedding in cotton and linen. The neutral tones of the 1800s photography inspired the initial color palette. Lastly, stumbling upon colorful vintage Somali stamps supplied the twist and inspiration for layering on a second color palette.
